WHAT IS WANDERING THROUGH JAPAN?

Wandering through Japan is a letter subscription service that sends out a travel journal style letter with accompanying pictures of the various places I visit in my travels across Japan. Each letter describes and provides information on various historical buildings, modern attractions and places of natural beauty, while the pictures are edited to take on the appearance of a watercolour style painting to provide a classic feel to the whole experience.

 

Every letter is originally hand written by myself after visiting the destination and then copied onto a high quality letter paper stock. Each picture is taken and edited by me on the day of the visit, bringing you as close to the experience as possible.

 

The contents of each letter will vary, since different places will have more or less for me to write about. That said, there will always be a minimum of one letter page and two pictures in every letter.


WHAT IS A FAUX WATERCOLOUR PICTURE?

The pictures provided are original photos taken by me at the destination which are then edited to take on the appearance of having been painted. I do this because I think it adds to the ascetic of the package, creating the feeling of opening an explorers documentation of their journey from a bygone time while still accurately capturing the details of the location in a way a true painting might miss.

 

This is also done for privacy reasons, since some locations are very public and this is an effective way of concealing the identities of other guests at the site.


HOW DO YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION ABOUT AN AREA?

Mostly the information provided in my letters is based on my first hand experiences at the location itself and supplemented with additional research information that I find in books, reputable websites and through discussions with local people. Where applicable any references to external research material will be provided as a separate document with the letter.


HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY LETTER TO ARRIVE?

Each letter is sent via standard airmail. Depending on the destination this should normally take between 4-9 days, though with the current Covid-19 pandemic this can take longer. If after three weeks you have not received your letter, send us a message and we will email you the contents of the missing package so that you can continue to enjoy the journey, and send a replacement in the mail.


WHAT HAPPENS IF I PAUSE OR CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION?

You can pause or cancel at any time, though if this happens after the 15th and your letter has been posted we will be unable to refund subscriptions for that month. If you decide to subscribe again in the future we will contact you to confirm if you would like to continue from your previous subscription or start over from the beginning.


HOW DO YOU USE MY INFORMATION?

Any personal information provided by you is only used by me for the purposes of which it was provided. I will never sell or use your information outside of sending you your letters, replying to a message or directly contacting you due to an issue with your subscription. If you cancel your subscription I will keep a record of your name, email address and the last letter received for the sole purpose of allowing you to easily continue from where you left off in the adventure. This information is kept for a total of 6 months before being deleted from my records. If you wish to re-subscribe after this point, you are free to include a message with the new subscription informing me of where you wish to continue from.

 

While an active subscription is held we will retain your name, email address and mailing address for the duration of the subscription. This information is only used to send you your letter and to get in contact with you if there are any issues or new information about your letter. You will not receive promotional materials in this way, nor will this information be given to anyone outside of Wandering Through Japan or the postal service.

 

Emails sent through the contact form will be replied to as needed, based on the content of your message. Additional messages will only be sent if the validity of the original reply has changed or if the original message requested updates. All emails and email address information obtained through the contact form are deleted after 30 days, unless further contact is requested in the original message.
